What Is Counselling?

Life can be very complicated.  Most of us will be faced at some point with experiences, losses and challenges that make it difficult to cope.

When this happens some people bottle up their thoughts and emotions, which results in them feeling depressed, anxious, alone.  Others feels so frustrated and out of control that they explode in emotional outbursts of anger or despair.

People in distress often feel isolated and worthless, even when supported by family and friends, as they cannot confide how they are really feeling for fear of upsetting others.  At times it can be hard to imagine that things will ever get better …

But I believe that deep inside everyone has the ability and power to change how they think, feel or behave in order to make life a little easier.  It's just that sometimes they need a little help working it all out.

In a safe and confidential space, I offer you the chance to talk and be heard, to feel accepted and understood.  I will not to judge or criticize you, nor tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing.  Instead I will really listen and try to understand what it is like to be you.  After all, you are the only person who has lived your life.

Together we can help you to understand your feelings and emotions more clearly, recognise where the real problems and concerns lie and discover what the real you wants and needs.  With this self-awareness, you can then take your first steps towards taking back some control and making the changes necessary for you to face the future more positively.
